The Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce has declared that the volume of trade between Nigeria and the United Kingdom in 2017 will exceed 20 billion pounds.

The President of the chamber, Mr. Adedapo Adelegan, made this declaration at a press briefing held to announce preparations for the 40th anniversary of the NBCC.

He said that trade was the forte of the NBCC, adding that despite the recession, the trade volume for this year would exceed that of 2016.

He said, “There are millions of Nigerians living in the UK who are consuming Nigerian exports to that country; despite the recession, the trade volume will exceed 20 billion pounds.”

He disclosed that the chamber had continued its advocacy programme to create linkage between Nigerian exporters and the UK and that efforts had been in top gear to push more of Nigeria’s non-oil exports to the UK.

The NBCC president said that in the next few months, the chamber would launch a centre for the Small and Medium Enterprise sector in collaboration with the DCSL Corporate Services Limited.

On preparations for its 40th anniversary, he said there would be an annual lecture, photo and arts exhibition in March, which would include a documentary of milestones covered in the past 40 years.

Other programmes, according to him, include cocktail and launch of the NBCC Abuja branch, gala dinner and patron’s investiture in June as well as 40th anniversary trade mission to the UK in May, which will focus on maritime, mining, mineral resources as well as finance and investment.
